NOTE: While the structure and names of UK operations have recently changed to reflect three core programme areas - Climate Change, Intercultural Dialogue and Knowledge Management - the principals of the toolkit and its colour coding system can still be applied. The toolkit contains nine design templates: one for each main area of British Council activity*, plus one generic corporate template. All the design templates are also available as a single-colour graphic version. (*See above note.) Templates are electronic layouts that define consistent margins, colour palettes, logo positioning, photograph and illustration positioning and clear spaces. All templates adhere to corporate identity standards – they must not be modified. The design templates for Learn English and Exams have been further broken down to include sub-sections for business English, young learners and a general style for all audiences. If you are developing a publication for which there is no exact template provided, please instruct your designer to base the size and layout on the nearest equivalent template, adapting as appropriate, or contact Design Department for advice. The following pages give examples of finished layouts using templates and photographs supplied on the Designers’ resource and Photo resource DVDs. These examples are by no means exhaustive and a wide range of creative options can be generated from the QuarkXPress and InDesign source templates. Additionally, by commissioning your own photography based on the brief supplied on the Managers’ CD, you can add local emphasis that can then be used to supplement the supplied photography. The visuals below demonstrate the overall design, colour
and photographic scheme for each activity area included in the toolkit.
Please note: the portrait images supplied on the Photo resource DVD may be used only on corporate, Learn English, Exams and Education document covers. They may be used on internal pages of the other sectors. The graphic template can be integrated with products from
the photo template of the relevant sector or used when no suitable photography
is available. Please be aware that when mixing the photo and graphic
templates a slight difference in the colours will occur. This is due
to the differences in printing in full colour (photo templates) and
spot colours (single-colour graphic templates).
