The British Council name is a core
element of our identity. It represents more than 75 years of history
and achievement and is recognised worldwide.

The name should never be:
shortened to ‘the
Council’ or ‘BC’, except where ‘BC’ is
used strictly for internal purposes (such as ‘BCWorld’ on
the intranet)
translated
on the telephone, in print, online or on signage, except where this
is a legal requirement (and then only with the approval of Design Department)
preceded
by the word ‘The’ or ‘the’ on signs, for copyright
or when writing addresses and job titles; in all other cases, our name
should be preceded by the word ‘The’ or ‘the’.
To avoid repetition of ‘British Council’,
use ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ (which
is more in line with the brand’s tone of voice) rather than referring
to ‘the British Council’ in the third person.
